For Luisa, conscious of the current state of the planet, creating a business that is eco-friendly was a natural choice. She says “It’s time to stop producing without thinking if the product will be used, and what impact our production has on the environment. The world is becoming more conscious and people are starting to care about how the production process is conducted. They will have a choice between fast fashion, that we all know what is hidden behind (work conditions and environmental impact), on the one hand, and small brands and artisans, caring about good work conditions and the environment, on the other.” What would you choose? The pieces Luisa works with local workshops from Barcelona, buys local materials and designs abstract ideas. Some clothes are inspired by her motherland and some by her observations of the modern world. LOIDI’s singular character – today recognized from far by bold colors, retro cuts, transparency, and prints, has been changing a lot over the years. Her first collection was minimalistic, she used bleu marine tones, in “worker” simple cuts. Those lasts are the only part that stayed. Judith is extremely creative and visionary when it comes to designing, the sketches are drawn in her head and from there she begins the search for fabrics. Sometimes the inspiration can come in the sense inverse – she sees an interesting fabric and the story of love begins. Although sustainability has not been the primary objective, Judith admits that it has been incorporated naturally into her way of being and lifestyle through simple and responsible actions such as conscious consumption, buying second-hand clothes and fabrics, the focus and attention that she dedicates to the making of each of his garments. In our LIVE conversation on Instagram she tells us about the origin of her brand Miss Coconut. “The project was born in a kind of casual and unexpected way, I bought my boyfriend a 3D printer as a present and it turned out to be me who used it to create my first earrings”. WHY THE BRAND IS SUSTAINABLE? To Celia, who is a conscious soul, the project became even more interesting when she found out the existence of sustainable materials. To create her accessories Celia uses PLA biodegradable and bio-sourced material, which is a polymer extracted from beets, sugar cane and corn. The material has a long lasting quality, resistance and durability. Aanshi in future is planning to collaborate with local sustainable brands from different countries to give her clients opportunity to get to know their local brands and support them. I would risk a statement that La Vouga can be a future amazon of ethic and sustainable fashion. Aanshi defines herself as an ex-fast fashion shopper, who over time became more aware of consumption and began to wonder what was really necessary and how much impact we have as consumers. Coming from India, she is also aware of this industry working conditions. Setting the goal of a sustainable brand may be easy, but the challenge begins when it comes to making the product. How to avoid compromising natural resources and create a product that sustains? For Maria there are several answers: As an alternative to leather Canussa uses a high-quality and resistant microfiber that comes from recycled plastic bottles and plastic salvaged from the sea. Secondly, to minimize the carbon footprint impact, Canussa plants a tree for each sold item. The commitment to the environment also extends to the people who are part of this process: qualified artisans from Spain and small and medium-sized merchants who share the vision and values. The biggest challenge? As most of sustainable producers, challenge is high costs. But if we try to break down everything behind it, we will see that it is not a cost but a minimum investment that can have a high positive impact on our environment. The feel of glasses is luxury and modern. During our LIVE interview Joan – the founder of the brand has disclosed to me some details of his conscious journey. What extreme situations lead us to create ecological and sustainable awareness? To Joan it started on a vacation in Southeast Asia. When he got there, he found seas full of plastic and waste. Setting the goal of a sustainable brand may be easy, but the challenge begins when it comes to making the product. How to avoid compromising natural resources and create a product that sustains? For Maria there are several answers: As an alternative to leather Canussa uses a high-quality and resistant microfiber that comes from recycled plastic bottles and plastic salvaged from the sea. Secondly, to minimize the carbon footprint impact, Canussa plants a tree for each sold item. The commitment to the environment also extends to the people who are part of this process: qualified artisans from Spain and small and medium-sized merchants who share the vision and values. The biggest challenge? As most of sustainable producers, challenge is high costs. But if we try to break down everything behind it, we will see that it is not a cost but a minimum investment that can have a high positive impact on our environment.
